2010 Convention Workshops

Here are just a few of the workshops that will be conducted at the IGCA Convention in May, 2010, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. BAYBERRY CANDLE WITH CHRISTMAS/FRIENDSHIP LEGEND

HAND-SCULPTED DOGWOOD CANDLE

ELECTRIC CANDLES

This workshop will feature ideas that add soft light and great fragrance ...without the flame! Beneficial for places that do not allow burning candles. A variety of styles for everyday use - as well as seasonal and holiday ideas -will be included.

 

WAX MELTS

USE AND CARE OF RTV MOLDS

Bob thinks 8-10" is a nice size for these, and you can make a whole family of different sizes! They can be made with or without a wick - as of late, Bob's been making them without wicks.

Learn how to create beautiful wax flowers. A simple way to decorate your handcrafted candles or store-bought candles. Make elegant wax flowers, petals, and leaves with decorative sheet wax. There will be various candles (tapers, pillars, votives) to choose from to create your own personal candle.

 

HURRICANE CANDLES WITH EMBEDS AND SURFACE PICTURES

PILLARS WITH AGATES

DECORATING DIPPED PINE CONES

You will learn how to decorate dipped pine cones with silk flowers and ribbon. They can be used as special decorations, ornaments and in baskets. Make a common pine cone anything but common!

SNOWBALL

Learn how to use whipped wax to turn a round candle into a snowball and also a snowman.  Each participant will make one of each.   Display and packaging ideas will be covered.

 
ROSEHIP POTPOURRI

Learn the basics of selecting materials to use to make rosehip potpourri, and how to put it all together.  We’ll also cover making some items that can be used to enhance your potpourri.  Each person will receive packets of various botanicals that can be used and the sources.

 

 
MARBLE FOREVER

Looking for a beautifully-unique candle to add to your product line? Then the Marble Forever Pillar candle is perfect for you! As a student in this class, you will create your own one-of-a-kind forever pillar candle, with a finished pattern that looks like marble.

The Forever Candle is an unscented pillar candle (round or square) with a glass insert designed to burn a scented tea lite.  By creating a Forever Candle, you are not committed to one candle scent and can change the tea lite to whatever fragrance suits you for the season.  Unlike traditional pillar candles that become waste wax after it melts down, with proper care, the Forever Candle will last you virtually forever. 

 

 
FOOD PROCESSOR

Like me, you may have a food processor setting on the shelf taking up space. Learn how to use it to create a candle. We will show you how to create slices of wax with the slicing blade and then use them in various types of candles. You will make a small pillar candle using the wax slices.

 

 
EMBEDDED OBJECTS

The Embedded Objects Forever Candle is an unscented pillar candle with a glass insert designed to burn a scented tea lite.  Because the candle flame never comes near the embedded objects, there is no fear of burning or melting them.  Learn how to let your creativity run wild, from using nature’s gifts like coffee beans, cinnamon sticks, pinecones and sea shells to fun objects like candy canes and golf tees (pictured).  Observation class only.

 
WEDDING CANDLES

Weddings are a great “niche” market for many candlemakers. In this class we will show you several different types of candles and wax items that can be used for weddings. You will decorate a pillar candle suitable for a wedding or anniversary. This candle will have an embedded votive glass for a votive or tea lite.
